Voice of the Month: Daliah Bell – Inspiring Through Music, Vision, and Action

At Women Speak Up, we celebrate women who don’t just find their voice—but use it to elevate others, lead with authenticity, and spark lasting change. This month, we are honored to feature Daliah ‘GirlOnTheRocks’ Bell, a DJ, event host, and media personality.

Redefining Versatility in Modern Entertainment

Daliah Bell, aka GirlOnTheRocks, is a standout figure in entertainment, hailing from Staten Island, New York. With almost a decade of experience, she's made waves as a DJ, event producer, entrepreneur, and multimedia personality. Starting out in college, her passion for music led her to DJing, and she quickly became known for her energetic sets and crowd intuition.

Transitioning seamlessly into event production, she's curated unforgettable experiences for her audience. But her talents go beyond the turntables; as the force behind the "Feed the DJ" podcast, she unveils captivating stories of DJs, artists, and producers. Her global ventures showcase her commitment to pushing boundaries in entertainment. A DJ, model, media personality, and content creator, she epitomizes versatility and innovation in the entertainment landscape, leaving an indelible mark wherever her journey takes her.

Where Community Meets Creativity

Daliah's ultimate mission is to build meaningful platforms, events, and experiences that bridge the gap between communities and the creatives who bring them to life. She's dedicated to fostering spaces where connection, collaboration, and culture can thrive. Whether it’s in her hometown or any place that could benefit from stronger creative unity.

Beyond simply hosting events, Daliah aims to cultivate environments that inspire people, amplify underrepresented voices, and spark opportunities for growth. She wants to empower creatives to share their stories, elevate their craft, and find the audiences that truly resonate with them.

The First Spin

Daliah’s path as a DJ originated when she was just 19, and that was when she had her initial encounter with music and performing. While working at a local club, she was introduced to DJ equipment, the very first moment she saw the dancing of the crowd and the beautiful atmosphere they were in, she fell in love with it. Wanting to turn her curiosity into a profession, she went the hard way and trained herself in all the skills needed to mix, scratch and put together sets full of energy, watching tutorials, practicing for hours at home, and trying out various ways until she found her own sound.

Her commitment was even more assured when she got her first Serato DDJ-SR controller as a present on her 20th birthday, a gift that symbolized the official beginning of her professional DJ career. Daliah was still very young and remained unfazed by challenges, whether it be navigating age restrictions in clubs or the physical exhaustion of equipment transport. These formative experiences not only developed her technical skills but also molded her with the traits of perseverance and hard work that would ultimately form the basis of her diverse career in the entertainment industry.

The Voices Who Lit the First Spark

When asked about who has guided and inspired her growth, she tells us her family, friends and the "creative tribe" in her home town of Staten Island that helps her amplify her voice.

"As for inspiration, all of the hard working successful women who beat the odds are those who I look up to the most."

While she didn't say who she looked up to the most, we can only imagine it's the women who came before her in her family. Daliah talked a lot about how important family is and parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins, and everyone else who supported her, she wants to thank them because she wouldn't be the woman she is today without them.

Daliah has worked with Women Speak Up on countless occasions with being our DJ for our 6th and 7th Annual Women Speak Up Galas and our 1st Annual Summer Pop-Up in July of this year. We have grown a close friendship with Daliah and she inspires us everyday to chase our dreams and not to let anyone or anything get in the way.

Proud of Her Voice in Action

Daliah has a lot to be proud of in her line of work. When she's up on the stage making the music that the people are dancing to, she knows that she's making someone's day/night better than it already was. Although when she thinks of the DJ panel last month she was apart of last month, she's also very proud of that.

"The most recent DJ panel I was apart of last month with MAKER PARK RADIO, is what makes me proud my voice in action. When I shared the stage with DJ's of all genres, ages, and backgrounds to talk about how to start and flourish a DJ Career."

Shaping Tomorrow

Educating is part of her long-term goals too, as to owning a venue, which would be a place to where music, the arts and community engagement would be main things, the place artists could blossom and the public connect at a close level. For the not distant future, she is attracting major national and international events by being a DJ, getting her name out and still challenging the limits of a modern DJ and multimedia personality. To her every move is not only the personal success but the success of the whole community, she works out the opportunities that not only to create but also to strengthen the communication, bonding of the community around her.
