Voice of the Month: Vialexa Abreu — Turning Opportunity into Impact
At Women Speak Up, we believe that when women are given the tools and space to use their voices, their impact extends far beyond the moment they speak. This month, we are proud to spotlight someone who represents exactly that.
Vialexa Abreu, one of the first alumni interns to graduate from the Women Speak Up program, has continued to carry the mission of advocacy, leadership, and empowerment into every space she enters.
From her early days as a driven first-generation college student to her work today in media strategy, Vialexa has built a career centered around representation, opportunity, and community-building. Her journey reflects what happens when mentorship meets determination — and when women uplift other women along the way.
As a proud Women Speak Up alumna, Vialexa represents the next generation of leaders who are not only advancing professionally but also using their platforms to open doors for others.
A Journey Rooted in Representation
Vialexa grew up in the Bronx as a first-generation college student, an experience that shaped both her ambition and her perspective. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Public Administration from Binghamton University, developing a strong foundation in strategy, advocacy, and leadership.
Today, she works as a Cross-Platform Media Planner at AMC Networks, where she helps brands connect with audiences across television and streaming platforms through innovative advertising and distribution strategies.
But beyond her professional accomplishments, Vialexa’s work has always centered on creating pathways for others.
Together with two of her college friends, she co-founded The Afterwork Collective, an initiative that connects young professionals through networking events, mentorship, and resources designed to support both personal and career growth.
Her long-term vision is even bigger — launching a nonprofit that will help high school students gain access to opportunities such as internships, early college credit programs, and guidance through the college application process.
For Vialexa, success isn’t just about reaching new milestones. It’s about making sure others have the opportunity to reach them too.
Using Her Voice in the Workplace and Community
Throughout her career, Vialexa has continued to advocate for representation and inclusion.
At AMC Networks, she plays an active role in employee resource groups, serving as Communications Chair for VOCES, the company’s Latinx employee organization, and acting as a company-wide liaison for She Runs It, an organization dedicated to advancing women in marketing, media, and technology.
Through these roles, she helps create spaces where diverse voices can be amplified, conversations can happen openly, and community can thrive within the workplace.
What Being Voice of the Month Means to Her
For Vialexa, being recognized by Women Speak Up feels especially meaningful because it brings her journey full circle.
Having once been an intern within the organization, she understands firsthand the impact of programs that encourage women to develop confidence in their voices and leadership abilities.
She shares:
"I’m truly honored to be named Voice of the Month. I previously interned with Women Speak Up and I’m incredibly proud to see the important work the team continues to do. This recognition reminds me that the hustle never stops and motivates me to keep pushing and striving for more."
Voice in Action
One of the moments Vialexa is most proud of has been stepping into leadership roles where she can actively advocate for representation.
By helping lead initiatives within VOCES and supporting women through She Runs It, she works to ensure that people from underrepresented communities feel seen, supported, and empowered to share their perspectives.
Her work reflects a simple but powerful belief:
When people feel heard, they are more empowered to lead.
Inspired by Family, Driven by Purpose
Behind Vialexa’s determination is the inspiration of her family.
As immigrants, their sacrifices and resilience shaped the path that allowed her to pursue higher education and build her career. Their strength continues to motivate her every day.
She shares that their example reminds her to keep pushing forward — not only for her own growth, but for the opportunities she hopes to create for others.
Advice for Women Finding Their Voice
For women who are still discovering their confidence or navigating new spaces, Vialexa offers a powerful reminder:
“Trust that your voice is valuable, even when you’re still finding it. Speak up, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take up space. Your perspective is unique and deserves to be heard.”
A Full Circle Moment
Seeing Vialexa grow from a Women Speak Up intern into a leader in her field is a reminder of what the organization strives to do every day: equip women with the confidence, skills, and community needed to thrive.
Her story is proof that when women invest in each other, the impact multiplies.
As one of the first alumni of the Women Speak Up internship program, Vialexa continues to embody the mission of the organization — uplifting voices, creating opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of women leaders.
